PROBLEM The New York City public transit system is often a confusing experience for non-locals, and on top of that, some of its most memorable qualities are grit and grime. Not a great first impression of the Big Apple.
OBJECTIVE Revive the transit system to better represent the iconic city it serves while providing a more enjoyable transit experience. SOLUTION Partner with the MTA and New York’s prominent musical artists of today to bring excitement and enthusiasm to the transit experience. The program will primarily function through visual/audio installations in select MTA transit stops and vehicles, and will host a series of live performances along the transit system throughout the year. Student project created at Syracuse University’s Communications Design program. Project concept and the following deliverables developed entirely by designer. |

USER EXPERIENCE
Users are first introduced to the initiative at the exterior of the transit system (left). The main concourse hosts a visual/audio installation (above). A kiosk provides a point of interaction, informing users about the current artist, educating them about the program and its upcoming schedule. It displays a touch screen transit map that shows other installation locations and provides users with a free music download (below). The final points of interaction are branded exteriors of buses and subway cars, the interiors of which house a continuation of the installation. (below).
